Made to be
pulled apart.
The grain on this one is firmer than the rest, so it shreds into strands instead of breaking into chunks. Put it in a wrap, a taco or a burrito bowl and it behaves like pulled chicken. It also carries the most protein in the range at 26g.
This one is drier than the others.
Several buyers have told us so, and they are right. There is no sauce in this pack, unlike Chilli and Teriyaki, so the texture is firmer and less juicy than Mild or Black Pepper.
That is also the point. A firmer grain is what lets it shred cleanly. If you want it as a wrap or taco filling, that texture works in your favour. If you are eating it plain from the pack, take Black Pepper instead.

Early feedback
Taco is our newest flavour, so there are only a handful of reviews so far. Here they are, including the ones about texture.
Is Taco the right one for you?
Yes, if you are building something with it
Wraps, tacos, burrito bowls, nachos. The firm grain shreds into strands and the seasoning already does the Mexican-style work for you, so nothing else is needed.
Yes, if you are counting macros closely
The highest protein in the range at 26g, with zero carbohydrate and zero sugars, at 117 calories. Nothing else here comes in that clean.
Maybe not, if you eat it plain
The dryness is real and buyers have said so. Eaten straight from the pack it is firmer than the others. Black Pepper or Teriyaki are the ones for eating as is.
One 100g chicken breast.
A whole breast with dry taco seasoning, sealed and sterilised in the pouch. There is no sauce in this one, which is why the ingredient list is the shortest in the range and the carbohydrate reads zero.
Single pack. For a mix of all five flavours, the 5-Pack Starter is $25.

Questions answered.
How do I stop it being dry?
Two things help. First, warm it. Twenty to thirty seconds in the microwave at 700W softens the grain noticeably. Second, shred it into something with moisture, like a wrap with salsa, a bowl with sour cream, or a salad with dressing. Eaten cold and plain is the one way this flavour does not show its best side.
Is it spicy?
Not really. Taco seasoning here is about warm spice and aroma rather than heat. For actual chilli heat, the Chilli flavour is the one.
Why does it say zero carbohydrate?
Because there is no sauce. Chilli and Teriyaki carry 7g and above from their glazes. This one is seasoned dry, so the panel reads 0g carbohydrate and 0g sugars with the highest protein in the range at 26g.
What are the allergens?
Taco declares no allergens, which makes it the only flavour in the range without soy or wheat in the panel. It is still made on a line that handles soy, wheat, egg, milk, peanut, tree nuts, crustacean, mollusc, fish and sulphites, so the full precautionary statement is in the panel below.
Is there onion or garlic in this one?
The taco seasoning is made with onion powder. There is no garlic. Neither is a declarable allergen in Australia, but people ask, so here it is. If you avoid both, Mild and Black Pepper are the two to go for.
Do I need to refrigerate it?
Not until you open it. The pack is sealed and sterilised, so it keeps for 12 months at room temperature. Once opened, refrigerate and eat within 2 days.
No preservatives, so why does it not spoil?
The pack is sealed first, then sterilised under heat and pressure at 115°C. It is the same principle as canned tuna. Food spoils because of bacteria and air, not because preservatives are missing, so no chemical preservatives or artificial additives are needed.

Why is the chicken pink in places?
This is the pinking phenomenon. The chicken is fully cooked, but myoglobin in the meat can leave a pink or reddish tinge. It is normal and safe to eat.
