Race day is a bad day
to meet a new gel.
Stomachs disagree with each other. What sits perfectly for the runner beside you at the start line can be the reason you are looking for a portaloo at 30 km. One sachet, one honest test, for the price of a coffee — before you commit to a box of ten.

maple water
Rating and review count are from yohemite's official Korean store, where the gel has been sold since 2021. They are not Momentum AU store reviews.
The part you notice first.
Ask anyone who has raced with gels what goes wrong and it is almost never the nutrition. It is the thick, cloying mouthful at 30 km that you cannot swallow properly, that coats your throat, and that you end up carrying half finished because the next drink station is another kilometre away.
yohemite is runnier than honey by design. It clears in one go instead of sitting there, and there is none of the powdery aftertaste gels are known for. You can take it mid effort, breathing hard, with just a sip of water.
That is the whole point of the formulation, and it is the thing most people notice before they notice anything else.
Three things, then you know.
Take it at goal pace
Texture and tolerance only matter under load. Take it on a long run at the effort you will actually race at, not sitting still.
Notice how it goes down
Take it with a sip of water, the way the pack recommends. If it clears easily while you are breathing hard, it will clear at 30 km too.
You are out $3.90
Rather than a box of nine more you will never open. That is the entire reason this single exists.
How to use it: one sachet 10 to 15 minutes before you start, then roughly one an hour on anything long. Carbohydrate matters most past the sixty minute mark, which is where your own stores start running thin.
Why it behaves differently.
- — 01Half of it is real maple50.8% Quebec Grade A maple water, not corn syrup. Fast glucose in front, slower maple behind it.
- — 02Runnier than honeyThin enough to clear in one swallow at race effort, easy to get down mid effort.
- — 03The tab stays attachedTear it one handed and the orange loop keeps the torn corner with the sachet. Nothing to drop on course.
Two sugars doing two jobs.
Most gels are built on one refined sugar, which is why they spike and drop. Just over half of this sachet is real Quebec Grade A maple water — 50.8% of it — sitting alongside glucose and maltodextrin.
Glucose absorbs fast and gives you the hit you need now. Maple sap absorbs more slowly and holds the line behind it. White grape concentrate keeps the finish light and slightly tart rather than sickly, and eleven vitamins ride along, including C, E, niacin and the B group.
Produced in a HACCP certified facility. Certified vegan by V‑Label, gluten free, and caffeine free.
Nothing to drop on course.
The orange loop on top is not decoration. Pull it and the sachet opens one handed — and the torn corner stays held in the loop, attached to the sachet you are already holding.
Which matters, because dropping a gel top on a marathon course is both litter and, at plenty of events, a disqualification. There is nothing to pocket, nothing to hunt for in a hip belt, and nothing sticky in your hand.
An Olympian reached for it. Nobody paid her to.
At the Paris 2024 Olympics, Korean table tennis player Shin Yu-bin was filmed taking a yohemite gel between matches. It was not a sponsorship and not a paid placement — she had packed it herself. The moment went out live, the clip spread, and the gel sold out in Korea. She appears in yohemite's Korean marketing today, but she found it first.

The questions that decide it.
Do I need water with it?
It is formulated runnier than honey, so it goes down easily mid effort. The pack recommends taking it with water, so plan a sip alongside it.
What does it taste like?
Maple sweetness with a tart white grape finish. Lighter than most gels, without the thick, cloying aftertaste people expect. If you have found gels sickly before, this is a genuinely different experience.
How often can I take one?
One sachet 15 minutes before or during exercise, best with water. Do not exceed the daily limit printed on the pack. There is no caffeine in it.
Is it vegan, gluten free and allergen free?
It carries the international V‑Label vegan certification rather than a self declaration, and it is gluten free. None of the ingredients is a declarable allergen — no milk, egg, soy, wheat, peanut, tree nut, fish or shellfish.
Why maple rather than just glucose?
Glucose absorbs fast and gives you the immediate hit, but on its own it spikes and drops. Quebec Grade A maple sap absorbs more slowly, so pairing the two holds performance instead of dropping it. It also means the gel is not built on refined sugar alone.
